Promoting Nuvet Labs Vitamins

We are excited to promote Nuvet Labs vitamins and may have samples for you when you pick up your new puppy.  We love these vitamins and highly recommend them and our dogs love them too.  My one dog loves them so much she raided my office and ate my samples.

Stevens Maltese Puppies highly recommends Nuvet Plus products...

Watch Your Puppy Outside!

There are many dangers to your new puppy when it goes outside to potty.

Sadly some dogs can be picked up by hawks when they are under 2 - 4 lbs.  It is harder after the dog reaches 3 lbs but I have learned that hawks can kill them on the spot and try to eat them right there if they can't carry them off.

Please watch your dog until it is well over 3 lbs when it goes out to potty.  Once they are full grown you should have no problems letting your puppy out to potty but still since Maltese are small and adorable, there are always things you need to watch for such as:

  • Holes Under The Fence
  • Fence Slats They Can Squeeze Through
  • Hawks
  • Possums
  • Larger Dogs
  • Larger Animals such as Horses, Donkeys, Goats, Cows, etc.
  • Children who may want to hurt your dog
  • Passersby who wish to steal your dog
  • Sunburn from being left outside without shade
  • Dehydration from being left in heat or sun
  • Large Bodies of water
  • Pools/Spas
  • Ponds

Things that may help:

  • Chicken wire stapled around the bottom of your fence and gates
  • Bricks put under the gate bottom so they cannot dig out
  • Bricks put under where ever they like to dig
  • Listen if you hear anything like yelping or barking
  • Don't leave the dog unattended until they are older
  • Don't leave the dog without shelter outside
  • Always leave water for your dog when it is outside

A Puppy For Christmas

What could be more adorable than a sweet little furball waiting to be loved for Christmas.  We have been blessed with two litters ready to go to new homes at Christmas time.

Much love and attention goes into getting your puppy ready such as constant cleaning, lots of petting, loving, snuggling, weaning, learning to eat puppy food, practice leash walking, potty training and lots of baths and grooming.

We raise our dogs with our family, our kids, other pets and in a busy household environment which helps the puppy adjust better to almost any situation.  We send home a washcloth with the scent of all in the house so they feel comforted when they get to your house.

Another great thing we do is to have you come over and visit your puppy one or two times the week before you take it so that the adjustment in getting used to you is spread out over time, ensuring the dog is adjusts faster to the new owners and  to the new home.

Our puppies will delight you.  We take extra special care of them, making sure they learn potty training skills before leaving the nest, we practice using potty pads, then using commands like potty outside and also going through a doggie door.  This will ensure your dog will have an easier time being potty trained.

We also practice walking puppy on a leash a few times so that the first walk with the new owner will go much easier.  There is much good that happens when the dog is eased into walking and following mom and another puppy on a leash, than when it is dragged because it never got to practice in a positive environment before.

We are taking deposits now for our current litters.

Stud Service

We are currently providing stud service.  If you have need for a stud please contact us at (757) 779-0214.

Any dog who is to be bred to another should be routinely inspected by a veterinarian for general health, brucellosis and should have yearly exams and immunizations before breeding.

It is best if you allow your female to have a rest in between litters for at least one season.  This means let them rest on the next heat.  If the damsel looks healthy and has a good weight and passes her yearly exam with flying colors then you may breed her on her next exam.

Breeders should be mentored and should be aware of expectations of the AMA (American Maltese Association) and the AKC (American Kennel Club).

Female Dogs under 4.5 lbs should never be bred.  It is likely the dog will end up having a c-section and will need to be retired.

Female dogs should never be bred more than 3 times to ensure the health and vitality of the dog.

It is recommended that you spay your bitch after 3 successful litters.

We have new puppies!!!

New Deliveries!

We have two new litters, yay!

Zoey Rose gave birth to 4 beautiful pups on 5/10/2013, 2 boys and 2 girls!

Bella Rose gave birth to 4 beautiful pups on 5/16/13 - 5/17/13, 2 boys and 2 girls!

The Latest from The Stevens:

No litters will be available this Christmas so get your puppies now.
We will not have another litter until late next spring.  We are retiring Bella Rose.  We do not believe in over breeding and we want Bella Rose to enjoy the rest of her life so she has been spayed.  We do not believe in dog farms so we will only provide a minimal amount of high quality dogs to the world.  Dogs should never ever have more than 3 litters.

We have 6 new puppies.  Yes we are so excited.  From Bella Rose and Zoey Rose who had 3 puppies each we got 5 males and 1 female.

3 pups were born September 20th and 3 pups were born October 7th.  Just in time for Christmas!!!
